REALLY GOOD THOUGHTS: How to inspire young innovators
Really Good Thoughts is a new content series, focused on sharing powerful insights to help our audiences learn from each other and do more good.
In this edition, we hear from Laura Andrews, Senior Marketing Manager at education technology charity, Apps for Good.
Apps for Good provide free computing courses for schools, giving young people the digital and essential skills to shape their future through technology.
We recently worked with Apps for Good to develop a new organisational Theory of Change, helping to map the charity’s work in delivering its vision of a world where every young person has the skills to shape their future.
We love that students learn how to design apps that will change something they feel passionate about, and then they get real-time feedback from market leaders including Google and Spotify.
So, we asked Laura Andrews, Senior Marketing Manager at Apps for Good, about what the charity has learnt about how to inspire young people, and how Tech for Good, and EdTech, can help young people to have the skills they need for the future - as well as inspiring the next generation of world-changing tech innovators.
Apps for Good say…
MAKE IT RELEVANT
“We continue to learn about the importance of independent learning in enabling students to become high-level problem solvers and informed decision makers. Through our courses, students create a solution to a problem - an app prototype - that addresses a societal challenge that's important to them.
It's a great way to tap into their natural curiosity and creativity.”
REFLECT TODAY’S WORLD
“One of my top tips is to know your audience and make learning relevant to their world. According to Pearson’s 2024 School Report, 73% of students say they struggle to engage in lessons, and teachers agree that making the curriculum more relevant and representative of today’s society would greatly boost student interest.”
FOCUS ON EXPERIENCES
“I believe technology holds immense potential to drive positive social change. However, it is our responsibility to equip the next generation with the skills they need to leverage their own lived experiences and to broaden their understanding of the diverse career paths available to them.”
