Enabling social mobility

CLIENT: WE MIND THE GAP

WeMindTheGap is a charity giving opportunities to underserved young people. We worked with WeMindTheGap to transform how the charity talks about its work to create real and lasting change, to engage funders, and to support the charity to influence policy for young people.

WeMindTheGap: Transformative marketing and fundraising - Really Good Things

WeMindTheGap exists to give new opportunities to young people who deserve better. We worked with the charity to transform their marketing and fundraising appraoch.

The context

WeMindTheGap is a charity based in Wrexham that provides truly life-changing opportunities for disadvantaged young people across the North West.  Through providing unashamed support, love, and care, the young people involved become ‘pilots of their own lives’ rather than ‘victims of their circumstances’.

The charity’s holistic programmes include:

  • Paid work placements

  • Qualifications

  • Mentoring

  • Holistic wraparound support

  • Positive role models

  • Support with mental and physical health

  • Guidance on practical aspects of life, including housing, budgeting, and relationships

We developed a case for support that communicates real social mobility in action.

How we worked with WeMindTheGap

We developed a new case for support for the charity, gathering the strongest evidence of impact to create a compelling story of real social mobility in action. Using this case for support, we:

  • Secured funds from the National Lottery Community Fund and many other trusts and foundations

  • Reviewed the charity’s marketing strategy

  • Developed a set of case studies and films with the young people talking about the impact of WeMindTheGap on their lives

  • Defined a new way of talking about WeMindTheGap and the charity’s programmes, impact, and future funding needs

The difference we made

“ I cannot recommend Sarah at Really Good Things highly enough. Her professionalism, creativity, knowledge, and can-do attitude has transformed not only our marketing approach, but our fundraising approach too. 2020 was not a year of many positives, but meeting and working with Sarah was certainly the highlight of the few that there were! As a result, we are now presented in a way that is commensurate with our significant achievements in our work with young people, we interact with our many audiences in more effective ways, and we have new excitement and optimism about what the future holds.” Rachel Clacher CBE, Founder of WeMindTheGap

“I cannot recommend Sarah at Really Good Things highly enough…transformed not only our marketing approach, but our fundraising too.”
