A new hospital charity

CLIENT: SOUTHPORT AND ORMSKIRK HOSPITALS’ CHARITY

We have worked extensively with NHS trusts to create entirely new hospital charities, and to guide and advise established NHS charities. We were commissioned to support the Trust Board in establishing a more robust charity for Southport and Ormskirk, including all aspects of communications and fundraising strategy, grant-making processes, and infrastructure.

How we worked with Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals’ Charity

We were commissioned by Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust - since renamed to Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust - to guide the Trust through the process of creating a new charity for their hospitals and community services.

Over the course of 12 months, we worked with the Trust’s Charitable Funds Committee to provide guidance and support across all areas of:

  • Charity structure and governance

  • Fundraising appeal

  • Internal grant making policy

  • Brand and communications

  • Internal communications and staff engagement

  • Public launch

The difference we made

The charity has grown to be one of the region’s most-loved hospital charities, and has since gone on to merge with another NHS charity we were also fundamental to the establishment of - Whiston and St Helens Hospitals Charity. Other NHS charities we have worked with include Bradford Hospitals’ Charity, Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, Warrington and Halton Hospitals’ Charity, Blackpool Hospitals’ ‘Blue Skies’ charity, and East Cheshire NHS Trust charity.

“Really Good Things were appointed following their work with a number of local NHS charities where we were able to seek recommendation for their work as charity specialists.

I was delighted by the excellent progress we made in a short time which was in no small part due to their diligence and expertise.”
