New fundraising approach

CLIENT: RSPCA MANCHESTER AND SALFORD

We were asked by RSPCA Manchester and Salford to conduct a review of their fundraising and communications in order to find areas for growth, including developing a new individual giving campaign based around buying a gift for the animals.

The pandemic and the cost of living led to a real crisis in the animal welfare sector, with too many animals needing care, and not enough money.

The context

RSPCA Manchester and Salford Branch have been giving new hope to the most mistreated and vulnerable animals in the area for 60 years. As an independent branch charity, the costs of running an animal centre, open round the clock 365 days a year, had increased dramatically due to the cost of living crisis. At the same time, the number of animals needing urgent care is at the highest it’s ever been, with more cats, kittens, rabbits, and guinea pigs needing intensive treatment before rehoming is even a possibility.

What we did

We were commissioned to conduct an audit of the charity’s existing fundraising and marketing practices and processes, to identify opportunities to increase income and raise their profile – particularly to increase awareness that RSPCA Manchester and Salford are a separate charity to the national RSPCA.

Our work included:

  • Fundraising audit and strategy development

  • Creating a messaging framework

  • Fundraiser and adopter interviews and case study creation

  • Development of an individual giving strategy

  • Campaign strategy to launch new individual giving offer

  • Improved donor journey and fundraising processes

  • Creating a new individual giving offer, website copy and content

The difference we made

Gayle and Sarah, I have just finished reading your paper and have thoroughly enjoyed it. You two have such very special talents and I am super grateful to you for sharing them with us so generously. I am truly delighted with what you have produced. The mapping out of our fundraising needs, the opportunities that exist for us, and how you have demonstrated our uniqueness is just so motivating to me!” Susie Hughes, Branch Manager, RSPCA
