CLIENT: MCS and MCS CHARITABLE FOUNDATION
We worked with MCS, the Standards body for renewable technologies, and the MCS Charitable Foundation, to develop a campaign that told the story of 14 years of growth for the renewable technology sector, and the impact for the economy, the environment, and for homeowners.
MCS sets, defines, and maintains the Standards for low-carbon energy technology products.
Along with the MCS Charitable Foundation, they exist to decarbonise heat and power in UK homes by giving consumers confidence in home-grown energy.
The context
MCS is a standards organisation for renewable technologies and a mark of quality that provides assurance of adherence to recognised industry standards; highlighting quality, competency and compliance.
Through the MCS Charitable Foundation, the organisation works to increase public confidence, awareness and access to renewable energy and low carbon solutions. This includes supporting education and engagement programmes, funding research, and facilitating innovative solutions to drive widespread adoption.
The challenge
MCS had accumulated significant data across a 14 year period, including metrics relating to carbon savings, changes in technologies, environmental impacts, and case studies from homeowners who had installed renewable technologies in their homes.
Along with the MCS Charitable Foundation, they wanted to tell the story of the growth of the sector, and to call for increased government support and investment for renewable technologies.
What we did
We developed a landmark report and campaign to detail the growth of the renewable technology sector across 14 years, and specifically to identify areas of the UK that were either forests or deserts of renewable technologies.
We reviewed all the data, evidence, and existing stories
We created a compelling campaign narrative that made it clear further investment and growth into the renewable sector would deliver big returns - we called the campaign Renewing Britain
We devised a strategy to get the campaign in-front of the right decision makers, including MPs
We launched the campaign across the sector, including in key media
The difference we made
The Renewing Britain campaign made a number of key recommendations to support more areas of the UK to become forests of renewable technology.
Renewing Britain also sought to underpin the need for investment in skills and learning for renewable technologies, to ensure that we are future-ready to meet the needs and demands of renewable installations across the UK as we transition to Net Zero.
